A day at Miramar, Colva or Baga is the best part of a Goan dog’s week, but salt dries out the coat and sand works its way into the paws, armpits and ears. Left alone, that leads to itching, hot spots and a smell that no perfume hides. After the beach, rinse your dog with plain fresh water, dry it properly — especially the ears — and check between the toes. On grooming day the groomer does a full wash, conditioner, ear and eye cleaning and paw cream, which takes care of what a quick rinse misses.
